People say the 3D is better on the XL...

People generally try to reassure themselves the XL is better in all sorts of ways when it's either a) personal preference, or b) objectively worse.

I have both and almost never play my XL. Far prefer the original, and this is one of the reasons: enhanced illusion of depth.

Interesting. Yeah, I'm not getting why people say there isn't' a difference or the XL is better 3D-wise. The difference for me was pretty stark; me and a young kid were both playing Mario 3D Land and switched 3DS's for a brief period (his being the XL). I made sure the slider was max and we both commented on the difference; there wasn't any scrutiny or uncertainty about it.

the biggest difference with the XL is that if you have a naturally wide field of vision, you have to hold the original 3DS just a few inches from your face to avoid "losing" the focus on 3d just from your eyes being distracted by other stuff in the room. With the XL you can hold it a fair bit farther and still keep focus properly.

I also feel it looks much better, as the original 3ds screen is so ridiculously tiny... (We have 2 3DS and 1 XL at home and about to get a second XL, because the original just feels unbearable when compared to the XL...)

But its all personal opinion. Thats why they sell both. If the XL was better in every way, they would just discontinue the original and call it a day. The difference in price isn't significant enough to keep both around otherwise.

The 3D effect in Ocarina of Time 3D was incredible on the original 3DS, but even better on the 3DS XL. I can also move it more and not lose the sweet spot. So for me it seems better.

Yea the 3d is much better on the xl you don't lose the sweet spot as easily.

Or the other way around:

People generally try to reassure themselves the "vanilla 3DS" is better in all sorts of ways when it's either a) personal preference, or b) objectively worse.

Except for the brighter screens, better speakers, and sharper image.

That's probably is true, but you can't deny there are pros and cons with owning either one. I'm going to be perfectly honest here I just simply like the original 3DS. Its portable and it fits right in my pocket. If the XL version could fit in my pocket I'd feel comfortable with owning one.

Yeah, the 3D is worse on XL. The plus with that is that since the 3DS' 3D capabilities do nothing to enhance the experience, it really doesn't matter, since the XL has better controls.
