3DS Original Donkey Kong Blue/White Mario clarification?

I searched and couldn't find an answer. Nintendo advertised this game with a Mario in blue and white. How do I get blue and white Mario? Was it a mistake? Thanks for clarifying this for me.

I was wondering about this, too. It seemed odd that they would use a Super Mario sprite, and make him blue and white on top of that, if the game never uses those.

I just looked at the picture in my email, and indeed you are correct..

I think I'm going to chalk it up to advertising purposes. Maybe Nintendo thought people wouldn't recognize the old-school Donkey Kong Jumpman, so they replaced him with a more recognizable palette-swap of the beloved Super Mario.

Regardless of the reasons for such, I am going to venture a guess that there is no way to "unlock" blue/white Mario. :(

I would also like to know this... Here's a link for people who don't know what this post is about:

XBL gamertag: Peltz | Wii U NNID: Peltz-0
3DS Friend code: 1161-0129-0691.

By the way, that's not the same shape as Mario's sprite in DK. That's an edited Super Mario Bros. sprite for the NES.

I found this image of DK Jr. via a quick google search:

XBL gamertag: Peltz | Wii U NNID: Peltz-0
3DS Friend code: 1161-0129-0691.

Wow, that kinda hurts that they advertised it with him, but he isn't in the game.

I know it's just a blue/white colour change, but it would have added a little something extra fun for me.

For some reason I thought maybe the second player in a two player game might show up as Blue/White, but no, he didn't.

^ Yeah, I've got too much time on my hands. To me it does kinda come off as false advertising though. Oh well.
