If they are are unique from eachother, what are the main difference?

Gameplay wise, they're pretty similar except for the NSMB2's emphasis on coins which really doesn't change the game that much anyway. I think NSMB2 has better level design though.

what are the main difference?

Level design, DLC, music, bosses, multiplayer, and coins. When compared to the DS one anyway.
Video games are awesome.

NSMB1 has the unique bosses and its own unique music.

NSMB2 rehashes the same bosses and music from NSMBW.
