It is quite remarkable that Animal Crossing: New Leaf reached that milestone that quickly, even when the likes of Mario and Monster Hunter haven't yet. I wonder what changed to create such a ravenous demand for AC in Japan? Is it really just the slight change in the formula (i.e. you play the mayor of your town, you can change your pants, you can swim, etc.)?

I think it will be interesting to see how will the graph for Pokémon X and Y will compare to AC:NL. I would think Pokémon will reach 2 million units sold even more rapidly (possible during launch week) but we'll see.

If Nintendo would have had any idea that Animal Crossing would have sold so well, I bet they would have worked a lot harder to get it released in the US sooner.

All the more reason for Nintendo to take their sweet time in localizing this, to ensure quality (among other reasons).

Animal crossing just destroyed everyone. It's sold out in Japan already.

I think I read somewhere that even the DD copy sold out.

Yes. Really.

Honestly... I'm not surprised how well Animal Crossing did. Now, maybe a couple months ago, before I looked into AC and (as a result) its fanbase, I would have probably dropped a vase in my shock (even though I don't own one).

This.

People buying half-finished games that are rushed for release is just another incentive for Nintendo to make them. I wouldn't mind it taking until fall so long as we get a quality product.

I still remember the NES Metal Gear, ugh.
