I'm sure this has been asked before, but why do demos have limited uses?

#121iMURDAuPosted 1/19/2013 5:27:12 PM
Like I said a while ago and all the fanboys who play demos until they run out and cry about it ignored...

Ever gotten a free weekend of HBO or Showtime from your cable provider? It ended, it cost you nothing, you got to watch some shows, does that require a ton of complaining online about their business model?

Businesses exist to make money. One day when you get a career instead of a crappy job maybe you'll all understand. And seriously why the hell would anyone play the Ocarina demo on Smash Bros when they own the game "just because i can". What a fail at justifying your argument. That's just psychotic to play a demo of a game you own a full copy of. Do you also watch previews of movies you own just for kicks?

My point isn't that it will hurt the company. My point is you're a loser and need to earn some cash if you get upset about a demo having limited uses. Games aren't expensive. Limiting uses of a demo is not the end of the world but apparently its worse than region lock to the fools arguing against it.

Love how I got Razieru all mad and he can't argue a point just resort to non sequiter insults. Typical.

So let me know when limited demos causes the next industry crash. I won't hesitate to call you all prophets.

You keep whining this line, which is evident of you STILL having nothing of value to post yet. Typical. Keep spinning on that wheel, kiddo.

Let me know when the companies you ignorantly defend make you a boy scout martyr, son. Also, post a link to the check(s) they give you for working for them and screeching those Reggie Fils Amie lines too.

Also, your sad attempts at trolling and insulting others for being "too poor" and "not having a decent job" as your "rebuttals" against the idiocy of demo limits are duly noted as well. You are just brimming with asinine responses and solutions, aren't you? Oh my, what great six year old hilarity you attempt to unnerve people with, Mur Mur.

A full weekend of HBO gives you access to the entire channel for the duration. A single level demo contains *gasp* that one level! If I played that level infinitely it's the same thing every time, whereas an infinite use of HBO means new premiers and programs each time.

All those smartass remarks and the only fool here is you.

True enough but if you use say the 30 uses up for the demo and you enjoyed it that much then maybe you should buy the full game?

@hbo example

haha now i got you here because i've mooched off that for more then 30 times.
why? because hbo is s*** the ONLY time they show GOOD movies it's during those free preview weekends. i know i can look at the tv guide thing and point out when they show good movies and it's ALWAYS during that free preview.

it's a f***ing scam they make you think there gonna be good movies on there during the free previews and show nothing else anyother time.

hell i just thought about it,but what about porn? who in there right mind pays for porn?
i know never did because the free porn isn't trying to pander to ONLY the h******* audience.(that is no lesbians,no hentai, no lolicon,no furry NOTHING but one to three guys and and girl...)

But how am I foolish when you all are crying about demo limits? Ffs. Buy the damn game. Name one person, post me one link, show me a user on this site or any other who feels shortchanged because they only got to play a demo X amount of times. You can't because no reasonable person would be upset about something that costs them zero dollars.

If you take "My point is you're a loser and need to earn some cash if you get upset about a demo having limited uses." as an insult then obviously it applies to you.

Case in point. Nintendogs + Cats has a ten play limit. My 3 year old loved the demo but we only had like 3-4 uses left. I bought the game. Oh no I got tricked by the capitalist pig Fils-Aime into forking over my $12 like a sucker didn't I? Lmmfao. Now he can call the dog by the name he gives it, take it for walks, and play longer than 3 minutes. Now go ahead and insult me for buying a game that isn't "hardcore" then enjoy sleeping alone tonight.

Also. I played the RE: Revelations demo a total of three times. Then I was bamboozled out of $18 by Capcom who is apparently run by Pol Pot and Darth Sidious or worse depending who you ask. According to you all I should have been perfectly happy playing the demo...except until it ran out then I should have raged out of control because of limits. Now I'm stuck with this awesome online raid mode....damn.

^ REassurance and I need attention, so I'll troll harder post.

Where's that creativity, Mur Mur? We all know you'll screech the same redundant boy scout ignorance over and over again, but at least change up the bs you're spewing a bit.

The only one ass-hurt here is you. We are discussing the idiotic demo limit, and you're frothing at the mouth over opinions about it; most of which are reasonable. Then you proceed by insulting people for not adopting your narrow-minded "logic".

You have a kid, yet you can't stop acting like one.

Good God, this topic's devolved into a Jerry Springer episode over these limits.

I'll say it again: Nintendo's not the first service to limit demos. Steam also limits demos, but they do it with a timeframe limit, not a use limit. A timeframe limit is actually somewhat worse.

The industry is changing. The times where some of you listened to Blink-182 while playing the MediEvil demo from the latest issue of Playstation Magazine are over. Suck it up and move on.

I loved the CD demos; I wish we could go back to them. We can't. This is how the industry wants to play it now. It's unlikely to change. You might as well get used to it, because arguing about it on GameFAQs isn't going to do anything about anything.

Yup; again I say, nice flat-minded and terribly ignorant "logic".

I just want to point out to you that the semicolon is to be used in joining two separate clauses together. As you do try to follow proper English writing conventions, this detail stuck out to me. You really just can't use a semicolon improperly; it's odd to do so. See, in that last sentence each part is a proper clause.

I'm not trying to be picky. It's just useful information.

On another note, I believe I skimmed over a part in this topic where you sold your 3DS. This isn't a jab at you, but why are you still on this board then? Are you thinking of picking one up later eventually? Are you holding out for something specific? I'm just kind of curious.

On topic, somebody should tweet or whatever at developers and ask them why they limit demos. Then there's actually something to discuss and debate, rather than these speculative thoughts that have been thrown around.
