Would that erase the preinstalled Fire Emblem: Awakening?

No.

eShop accounts/downloads are combined.

From what I heard, the two accounts will combine onto the 2nd 3DS. I think that the game will be deleted, but it will be there in your download section of the eShop waiting to be downloaded.

So I wouldn't lose anything important from my old one, and still get the preinstalled Fire Emblem Awakening? Nice.

Yeah. You just have to redownload it from the 'previous downloads' list on the eShop.

I'm curious about that, actually. I'm assuming it wipes the game from your SD card, but what if you copy the game from the SD to your computer or other device, do the transfer, and then copy the game back to the SD? Will that not work due to re-licensing? I'd like to buy the FE 3DS bundle, but I'd have to transfer everything from my ambassador system and my internet connection is slow as all hell.
