How is the Golden Sun series?

I've been thinking about getting it.
How many are there in the series and is it hard to find them brand new online?

I really loved the first two on GBA, but I have to admit, they haven't aged well. The third one on DS was alright, but there was nothing terribly difficult to that one. I'd recommend picking up just the first one and see if you like it before purchasing another. As far as finding them new, I don't think it's going to be easy.

First two are great. The third one... Well, imo it sucks. It is even easier than the first two, which is just sad. It acts as if all the improvements on the second game did not exist... It just is such a step back...

3 games in the series. 2 on the GBA, 1 for the DS. Personally, I think they're overrated as f***, and that's coming from someone who enjoyed them a long time ago. The story is just awful and the games are hideously easy and broken.

Loved the first 2 games and they're pretty much a set. GS1 also ends with a huge cliffhanger. The bosses can be pretty easy if you summon rush all the bosses, but if you don't they're decently challenging for RPG's. And the puzzles are great fun and will make you think, but they're not so hard that you'll slam your against the wall.

The 3rd one is garbage. Yes, nice graphics. But the story is much worse, the characters are worse, the battles are really, really damn easy and the puzzles are made for a 3 year old. The production value is the highest of the games, but the rest is so many steps back. Just pretend it doesn't exist.

The two GBA games are great but the DS game suffers from some annoying mechanics such as "points of no return" which have no place in any RPG in my opinion.

The third one did some few things right, but yeah, some things didn't help it. And the lower screen destroyed exploring like the first 2 games. Thinking back, you can, and I should have disabled the map. I might have enjoyed it more.

I think you ought to decide if you want to play 1 and 2, and then if you want to play the 3rd and its inevitable sequel. Make them two decisions. Considering 2 offers closure to the plot, they are technically two plots.

Regarding the first decision, yes, play them. The 2nd decision is up to you. You might want to wait till the saga gets another game though.

First two are actually really good and I recommend that you get them if you are looking for a good RPG to play. Story is decent and the characters are likeable. Also, unlike what some people said, the first two games are NOT that easy. While they aren't extremely hard with almost unsolvable puzzles and bosses that take hours of grinding to beat it still has its difficult parts. The bosses are fairly challenging at times and the puzzles can be difficult, but are more fun than annoying. The game is really only easy if you have grinded your characters to really high levels, played the game before, or used a faq to beat it.

God, I remember my first playthrough not really exploring for djinns and then having to fight the Kraken ... I beat it, but the nightmares! D:

I played the second game first and loved it. Got the first game a few years later, but somehow didn't like it quite as much.

I just got Dark Dawn the other day, but I haven't played it yet.
