How can you make DS games look not washed out?

How hard was it for nintendo to make a decent emulator for the 3ds. Vita makes PSP games look better than they originally were and let you use a second stick for MHFU, the least the 3DS could do is at least make DS games look somewhat like they were on the DS.

80% of the games I have for 3DS are DS games and they all look fine to me.

I never owned a DS so maybe that is why but DQ 9 looks awesome on the 3DS.

1) Play something besides Pokemon. The rest of the DS library looks great on the 3DS.
2) Get a 3DS XL and hold start or select when you boot the game. It will launch the game in true 1:1 pixel mode and the size of the image will be exactly the same as a DSi.
