What's up with the horribly inefficient video format the 3DS uses?

It's waaaay larger than it should be.

I converted an 8MB video from youtube and it came out 80MB.
I then converted an 80MB video from youtube and it came out OVER 1GB!!!
And that's after it downgraded the resolution to match the 3DS's native resolution and the frames per second were even decreased.

You must be doing it wrong... what are you using?

AVI files are large.

Mine are 300 MB max with 9:59:00 though.
