Just got my tax refund, which should I buy 3DS or PS3?

PS3 easily.

Want to play blu-rays, have an actual e-store, stream media, and have access to the best library of games this generation? PS3.

3ds is gonna have a big 2013. but there are so many great games to play in this console generation. plus ps3 has lots of good exclusives. you cant really go wrong with either honestly. hopefully you are able to get both and enjoy a lot of great games from all genres.

Nah hidden stuffs are still in games these days...
you just have to pay for them. Capcom calls them DLC.

Honestly? Neither.

The 3DS is lacking in sufficient games compared to the PS3 so right off the bat the PS3 is the better choice. However the reason I say neither is because of the imminent release of info on the PS4. If the PS4 has full backwards compatibility then you may as well hold on to that money until it releases and get that.

The PS3 easily has a better selection of exclusive RPGs.
Demon's Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, Atelier trilogy, Ni no Kuni, Tales of Graces f, Disgaea, White Knight Chronicles.
I personally liked Neptunia mk2. Neptunia Victory is coming out soon.

And the PS3/360 exclusive games:
Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 (if that's your thing)
NIER
Catherine
Most fighting games, non-Capcom

Non-RPG PS3 exclusive games include: God of War 3, Infamous 1 & 2, Uncharted 1-3, Killzone 3.
And various HD collections, such as: Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank, God of War, and Devil May Cry (PS3/360 exclusive)

The 3DS will be getting some good RPGs in the near future.
Fire Emblem came out recently, there's Rune Factory 4, SMT: Soul Hackers, Etrian Odyssey, and Pokemon all coming this year.
Tales of Abyss is out already. Monster Hunter is coming out next month, if that's considered an RPG game.

Since you have a PC and a Vita... it basically comes down to which "exclusives" you like more.
The PS3 has been out for much longer, and has a largely developed library.
It also has a better online system, your downloads are tied to your account, and the service is free.

The 3DS has the advantage of portability.
Since it's a newer platform, it still needs more time to fully develop.
But Nintendo is starting to show its willingness to support the system, which is a very nice thing to know.

Long story short: You can't go wrong either way.
The PS3 has a bigger library and better online, but the 3DS will be getting a bunch of games and you can take it anywhere.
If you are patient/don't have a lot of gaming time: get a 3DS
If you want to access the already big library of games, get a PS3.

That's the way I see it.

He does kinda have a point. The 360 technically has more exclusives than the PS3 but that's thanks to Xbox Live Arcade games, not AAA releases. When it comes non-digital games the PS3 kills it in it's exclusives and when you look at multiplatform well they're pretty equal (early on the 360 had the advantage here but it's pretty nullified at this point).

The Wii had potential, no doubt. However it was largely wasted thanks to shovel ware and there's only a handful of Wii games that were not focused on the casual market and among them only a few that were really any good (and almost all of those were made by Nintendo as usual)

The PS3 really did have the best library in the generation. Nintendo focused too much on shovel ware and the 360 focused too much on Live/Kinect. Of course, if you're a casual then the Wii and 360 would kick the PS3s ass easily, however people on gamefaqs rarely are casuals.

PS3, dood. Way more content than 3DS (I'm not dissing the 3DS, but look at 6 years of games versus 2) and as such, it will have more RPGs for you to play. Besides, you can pick up a lot of those dirt cheap now. However, I wouldn't wait, because even if PS4 does get announced, the price on the PS3 won't drop until the new system launch.
