Etrian Odyssey 4 - not too impressed

#1blackweasel30Posted 2/8/2013 12:32:58 AM
I was excited to try it out so I booted it up. The menu system was good, graphics were great. Then I got to the first forest and saw the attrocious exploring style and was immediately turned off. It was horrendous.

Thoughts?

Yeah, the lazy first person game play for an RPG is the turn off in general. Quite frankly, I don't see the appeal of this franchise given that alone. I mean, if I can't see my character(s), let alone where the hell I'm going, but I can see every damn enemy and attack instead, that's just bs.

Did they think this was some kind of breakthrough design of game play, let alone a SMART one and definitive of SRPGs? What is the point of the story at that? Is their a story other than mapping out dungeons and peering through the mail box view visuals?

I loved the art and feel of the game until I got to the actual exploring. It's neat and I liked drawing on the map, but I hate not seeing my characters during battle and stuff. I dunno, it makes me feel disconnected.

New school RPG player right there.

Yes, it's not for everyone, for the people who grew up with these kinds of games it's great that they're still making them.

There's always FF for people like you.

1 your supposed to be the characters so seeing yourself would be a major paradox D: some black hole mighta opened up if they made it 3rd person views xD
