What SD cards does the 3DS XL take?

#1TatsuSuouPosted 2/8/2013 1:12:04 AM(edited)
My 3DS XL is in the mail so I'm just waiting for it. Is the SD card that comes with it enough or should I buy a bigger one? What's the limit and does it just take a standard SD card? I was thinking 32GB, will that work? Also does it matter what "class" it is? I see some that are "class 10" but they're a bit more expensive.

I know this has probably been asked lots of times before but I thought it would be quicker just to make a new topic.

So it's not upgradable? Or do I need a different type of SD card?

You can totally upgrade your SD card, and I recommend it, too, so you don't have to worry about storage space. I'm not sure what the highest is but plenty of people use 32 GB cards that should last them through the 3DS' lifespan (hopefully). I personally use a 16 GB card.

Classes reflect the speed of the data that transfers. It's really only necessary for people who use cameras and stuff. I do not believe (correct me if I'm wrong) the class matters if you're just going to use it for the 3DS. I use a 16GB card at class 10 that I got for 12 bucks on Amazon a year ago. I do not regret my upgrade.

Thanks! I think I'll get a 16GB class 4 SDHC card. They're really cheap.

Thanks for advice everyone.
