I remember some of my DS manuals were like a hundred pages.

The 3DS has a feature that, when you put a game in, a Manual button appears at the bottom and it serves pretty much the same purpose as a paper manual.

At least there's no longer an excuse when someone asks a question that's answered in the manual and then they say they got it used without a manual.

I don't remember the last time I've actually /needed/ to look at a manual for any game, ever.

I opened to fire emblem only to see that the manual was just one page folded up. What happened to those days of reading manuals with lots of info and artwork.

I used to always read through the entire manual first before I played the game. Regardless of how long it was.

Manuals used to get me hyped to play the game. On the car ride home, I'd read through the whole thing.

Unfortunately they have decided to make manuals digital. :(

I complain about that every time I do a club Nintendo survey.....doesn't appear to have done any good........

Saving paper, most likely.

Still, it's BS on the developers part since we pay hefty amounts for a game. We deserve a well designed manual/case etc.

The last game I purchased that had a hefty manual, that wasn't in 18 different languages.

Wii:
The Last Story (All color, 40 pages)

3DS:
Kingdom Hearts 3D (All color, 40 pages)

So it depends on the developers. In this case, XSEED and SE. But major developers like Sony or Nintendo give you no manuals now.
