Here is the link to the first video:

It's just a basic intro with no actual gameplay. I will work on gameplay videos today.

I don't like this series.

I liked that they finally went to 3D enemies now
(though budget titles like Tales of the Final Promise (PSP), Master of the Monsters Lair (NDS), My World My Way (NDS) were already doing that).

I kinda wish Shin Megami Tensei portable games would start doing that

But whats insulting is the game select screen has a 3d character model and you can't see your characters in battle still.

Games like Sol Trigger, 7th Dragon 2020 and Nenoroid Generation do.

At least Dragon Quest VII changed this. (As well as DQ IX)

The series is a first person dungeon crawler, what did you expect?

Also as an argument for this specific style, it's a lot clearer and faster.
Having a third person view attack animations on the other hand does not contribute anything to the actual gameplay. It's a roughly second long (or varying) graphical gimmick.

...you know, I don't see people complaining not seeing their characters in Visual Novels, FPSes, and Wizardry titles at all, why does this game get so much flack for something so trivial?

What's up with people complaining about not seeing their characters in this game? Hell, when the first 3 games were released, I didn't hear one complaint about not seeing the characters at all! Just braindead noobs complaining the game should be easier, but that's about it.

Ironic no? The most visually improved game of the series gets the most criticism all of the sudden.

Many people didn't even know the first three games existed. That's the power of the Eshop Demo I suppose.

Also, it's a valid complaint. In an age of modern gaming, a game without rendering your party on the screen besides a picture does feel archaic.

Yes, that's the point. But Atlus (And you) shouldn't be expecting others to reminisce of the past.

It seems Atlus has accepted modest popularity since they're localizing the game despite sales being pretty standard for a localized game. But you gotta accept it too.

You still get to see their pictures all the time in battle and in town. Once you get over the fact youre not going to see a battle animation for each character, you realize its not really needed in this kind of RPG.

With the exception of Wizardry, the other 2 genres are pretty damn big you know.

Visual Novels and FPSes both don't let you see your character. You may see brief glimpses of them at times, but so does Etrian Odyssey with their character portraits.

Hell this isn't even reminiscing of the past. I never even played Wizardry or games like it in my life and Etrian Odyssey was still awesome when I first played it. This is the power of this series. A tiny bit of text, music, and a pretty environment can get you totally immersed into the setting.

No I complain in those too. Stagnancy and complacency in design and nostalgia purism are plagues amongst the gaming world...

Resident Evil Revelations and Mercenaries have proven you don't need FP view point in FPS games. You just need it when aiming.
FPS games are horrible design. You lose peripheral vision in FP when moving around.

Visual novels are way too stagnant in design. Static 2D characters that don't animate? Feh...
Well some are starting to evolve a bit like Time Travelers

And the best looking Wizardry so far is Wizardry Online and that's in third person...

Because just like the Wii U (in comparison to current gen consoles), it's something that should have been done the first time around. NOW they're are just catching up with the times.

Besides, First Person makes NO sense in these games because you are not controlling one character, You are controlling a GROUP of people. It's an outdated mechanic simply still being used for the annoying "nostalgia effect" (aka we're going to design this game cheaply and lazily on purpose because we know the old school harcore purist neckbeards don't care).

Also the stuttering grid point walking animation needs to go,.
Even the newer Wizardry games for NDS (not Summoner
got rid of that (though weirdly enough, the PS3 ones did not.....ugh)
