Buying a 3DS

#1Ghost_61636Posted 2/17/2013 6:59:27 PM
I'll be picking a 3DS tomorrow and I'd like some feedback from those that have one. My hands aren't too big and from videos and pictures I've seen it seems like the XL is too big for my taste plus I would rather it fit snug in my pocket.

At the same time I hate the gloss finish of the regular 3DS it seems like it attracts smudges and scratches extremely easy.

My question to you guys is should I grab the 3DS or the XL? Which one do you prefer more and is there any 3DS version that isn't glossy? Also more importantly does buying a used one come with more risks or is it something tolerable?

It really depends on how it feels for you. But being on this board for a while, XL users will attack the original and talk crap about it.

If you're afraid of scratches for the original, buy a plastic case for it. It works for me and it still looks like how it was Day 1. Also, get a screen protector.

The downside to the original is the mini scratches it makes on the top screen if you close the 3DS, but the screen protector can make that problem go away.

Some people say the XL has a little bit of an inferior sound display,

But it all falls to your opinion.

Does the screen scratching upon closing still occur even with the newer models?

I'm very clean and take care of my things very well. My biggest issue is hardware concerns, the screen scratching, hinges, and other things that affect performance. I want to know which is the sturdier model to go for, I don't care for the bigger screens or battery life too much I just want the system to last.

As an original 3DS owner, I'd spring for the XL for its better d-pad & buttons, bigger screens, and better battery life, in that order.

There's been some people around here that have been saying that it sometimes does, but I can't confirm.

I have small hands for a guy and the 3ds xl feels just fine. It fits into my dress pants and jeans pockets.

The XL has really nice ABXY buttons thats quite unlike the ones from the DS lite (only other "DS" system I've owned). While you have to press the DS lite button all the way, you don't have to with the XL. They feel like the keys on a mechanical keyboard. Same can be said for its D pad.

I'm not sure about the original 3DS's buttons as I've never tried it. If its at all similar to the DS lite's, well there you go, all the more reason to get a 3DS XL

Is there any sort of drop in 3D quality due to the larger XL screen? Does the XL have any issue with screen scratching when closing like the 3DS?

Scratching...due to what exactly? Anyway, no scratch issues at all. Nada.

I've nothing else to compare the 3D to as I've never owned the original 3DS. I can say though...I don't really like the 3D. You have to be really steady to get the right kind of angle for the 3D depth. If you move even the slightest bit it distorts the 3D so it gets blurry. Oh well...

I'm not too sure if this is an issue but how is backwards compatability with regular DS games. Does the larger screen stretch anything out? I'm sorry if this sounds dumb but it's my last question and I appreciate all of your help.
