Use the pedometer function on your 3DS. I can't remember how many steps you need for each coin, but I think it is 100.

Some games use them. Resident Evil Mercs 3D used them to unlock the weapon sets, Revelations allows you to use them to buy stronger weapons in games, and a few other games have used them in similar ways as well. Most of the newer games don't though, so unless you have an older game they are pretty pointless.

You simple have you 3DS and and in sleep mode and walk with it. Every 100 steps = 1 playcoin and each day for 1000 steps you get 10 coins. So pretty much in 30 days you get the max of 300 coins if you walk at least 1000 steps a day.

Oh and one more thing, certain things like GBA games for Ambassadors or DS games and maybe a few others will also cause the Street Pass functions and other functions such as gaining play coins not to work. So if you are trying to get coins or Street Passes it's best to keep your system in the 3DS menu.

I don't think they do with the older titles but it's better to stay safe in that case. I've went a day thinking my 3DS was on at work and later found out it wasn't. Luckily a walk around our Walmart gives 1000 steps.

Thanks for the answers everybody. I think I need to be a little more active because the most steps I had before today was 4.
