Do you hotswap cartridges when the system is on?

Exactly, it is ingrained into myself not to do this. Though I'm sure if you did it to carts in newer systems, it wouldn't damage the system vs. for older systems.

Yes. Why wouldn't you? It's more convenient. It doesn't harm anything.

It's not even the same as the old way. The old way you had a switch that immediately shut the system off. The 3DS has an annoying boot up and shut down time to it.

So not only are you not being logical, but you're doing something that is even more annoying than the old way.

I do it when my system is in sleep mode and the game not running. I am not at all certain that would count as hotswapping, but technically the system is turned on.

Ever since the DSi days, I've been doing it the modern way - hot swapping with the system on. I see no reason to do it the archaic way anymore. Nintendo has gotten that far at least.

I grew up with the original Game Boy and I've learned to hotswap. Not doing so would be as weird as trying to angle yourself awkwardly to get some decent lighting rather than change the backlight setting.

Thank you. I've been gaming since '88 and I got used to the change. Anyone saying they're set in the old ways is just saying you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

I'm pretty sure the manual for 3DS XL (that's the one I have) says the cartridge can be removed when the system is off OR when in Home menu with the game not running.
