Is Nintendo moving to a preorder/e shop, only system?

It seems like I have to actually pre order a copy to receive a physical version for any up coming game. Is this the new norm?

I'm not exactly sure what the response is supposed to indicate.

Only extremely niche / very low print run games are ever done pre-order only. Nothing Nintendo publishes falls into this category.

It indicates that it's a stupid question.

if you want a game in physical form, pre order at your gamestop/bestbuy/whatever. just put down $5 and you're good or all 39.99

Dr. Light: That's right. It's a variable. It represents unlimited potential.

Any upcoming game? What Nintendo games are you thinking of here, apart from Xenoblade (which they never intended to bring to NA to begin with) and Fire Emblem (niche game series)?

Yeah, Fire Emblem Awakening was well stocked in stores across the globe.

Fire Emblem was under-produced on release. There was high demand which outweighed supply. It comes nowhere near being extremely niche / very low print run. The only Nintendo game I can think of that fits the bill is Electroplankton, which was sold almost exclusively online through NOA.
