Can I use a UK 3DS AC adapter in Japan?

#1bond007106Posted 3/4/2013 11:04:11 AM
I'm going to Japan for a fortnight later this year, and would like to know whether I'd simply be able to use my own UK charger with a travel plug. I know I could simply buy a Japanese one when I get there, but that would cost me 800-1000 yen, so I'd rather avoid it if possible.

Also, I'd rather get answers from people who actually have some direct knowledge or experience, not just guesses and speculation (I can speculate myself; voltage in Japan is just under half what it is here in the UK, so if I were to guess I'd say that a UK charger would work there, without harming the 3DS, but would charge at half the usual speed).

I don't think they use the same outlets that UK does.

I am well aware of that. Please read my post more carefully. It specifically says "with a travel plug".
It's the voltage and frequency differences I am concerned about, and that is what I wish to have answers on.

If I must buy a Japanese 3DS charger, then it would be cheaper to buy one when I get there. But it'll still likely cost me at least 800 yen.

Travel plug works fine. I took mine to thailand last year and it worked fine with the plug adapter

The voltage in Thailand is more or less the same as in the UK, though (220v at 50Htz), so it would be fine.
In Japan it's 100v at 50Htz for East Japan, and 60Htz for West Japan.
