I really enjoyed Mario... well anything Mario, really. I'm also a fan of the 2D LoZ games (haven't actually ever played a 3D one). I love Harvest Moon. I really like JRPGs, like Chrono Trigger or any Final Fantasy (FFT and FFTA were some of my favorite games), as well as WRPGs (Mass Effect is probably my favorite series, though I doubt there's anything similar to it on the 3DS). My all-time favorite RPGs are probably Dark Cloud 2 and Kingdom Hearts (I know there's a KH title, I just need to get back into the lore)
Overall I'd rather my first game be a pick-up-and-play kind of game, as that's what I'll mainly be using my 3DS for, at least for the time being.

Maybe you should try paper mario sticker star. I agree. Some people hate on it, but just keep in mind that it is NOT an RPG, it's an action adventure game, and you should enjoy it. It's better (imo) than Super Paper Mario for the wii, and I'm about 15-20 hours into it so far and not finished. It's also charming. --- AEPhi Sister.
