RANT: region locking and game availability in UK

#1wolflordrufusPosted 3/6/2013 12:21:44 PM
Anyone else from the UK finding it hard to actually get 3DS games after forking out for the thing...?

I have been looking for Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy for bloody months, not even Amazon have it in stock.

Next.... Kingdom Hearts Deep drop also seemingly unavailable........

the list goes on and naturally we cannot, as far as I understand it, import from the USA anymore and expect the games to play.....

You could order it from Amazon anyway. They say it's not on stock, but unless you absolutely want it now, just order it and eventually they'll send it. Same for KH3D. Then again, I have had them ordered for quite a while now and still nothing.

Shopto are really great and trustworthy.

For Theatrhythm, check ebay maybe?

Hi!

I lurk these forums and don't feel compelled to post often, but I just ordered Theatrhythm from Gamestop UK (after a whiiiiiiile of searching, believe me). It's just under 23 for a new copy, here's the link:

They also have Ocarina of Time 3DS for under 20!

Why is there region locking in the first place? The company still gets the money, who cares if it is a dollar or a british pound? Cash is cash.

Worst part of region locking is they aren't compensating by increasing game availability across the world.

Nope. I've never had any problem finding them. My local GAME has at least pre-owned copies of both of those, and possibly new ones, too.

Region-locking is likely related more to copyright law than anything else. I'm sure there are legal complexities that make certain things acceptable in one region that are not in another. As copyright has gotten more complex, region locks have become necessary to account for different regions and their legal hang ups on violence, social structures, religion, etc.
