Very quick Zelda 2 question

#1ExpandyPosted 3/7/2013 3:30:38 PM
Hey, so I just died on Zelda 2 in the second palace. I figured since I had only 1 life that I could live with running back to the dungeon.

However my experience when I died was 1340/2000 and now it says 0/300...

So does this mean when I get game over I lose the experience I had gained up to that point? Should I have leveled up before getting game over?

Thanks for the help!

I'm not sure but I think it is in the JP version, never had that in the pal version.

Yeah I think its in the JPN version where if you get a game over it evens out your stats by lowering them to whatever your lowest stat is at. In the other versions whenever you get a game over your exp gets reset to zero but you keep all your levels.

Ouch, guess I should get out of the palace and somehow get my health restored so I don't lose that experience I built up. Yet another annoying layer on this game...

Ah well...thanks for the help.

Its not that bad in the US and PAL versions. If you find you're low on lives after beating a dungeon then just go ahead and get a game over since your exp should already be a zero and then all you have to do is backtrack to where you were which shouldn't take that long.

Yeah it's certainly good to know, especially if I'm saving up for a more expensive sword upgrade. But at least we don't have to deal with what the Japanese version dishes out. Yikes...

Its your punishment for dying! Here are some tips from me.

Keep an eye on your exp. If youre close, go grind a little bit and level up.

Every palace is greeted by a suit of armor. Hitting the armor might drop a MP potion. If youre low on health but have full mp, Use the life spell first, hit the armor and THEN get the mp pot to replenish your mp.

Use your shield spell before bosses, or against knights and hard enemies. It doesnt do the best job but it helps!

In the palaces you can grind for MP pots, P bags, and little exp on monsters that respawn fast like those places where the little red and blue blob guys drip from the ceiling.

No no no, the reason it says 0/300 is because you were saving up for the sword upgrade. It shouldn't have lowered any of your other stats at all. All it did was lower your EXP to 0, and the denominator is the next level up, namely either Magic or Health. Pretty sure you didn't lose any levels. But yes, when you get a game over, you do lose all of your current experience.
