Mystery Dungeon plays well, looks great, and all that, but...

God damn it, only 5 freaking choices for the starter? Sky had 19, dammit. Not to mention that I don't want to play as any of the starters in this one :l

Yeah it kinda sucks. Don't know why they limited the starter choices.

At least the demo was fairly lengthy.

Wait until you learn that there's only <140 pokemon in the game...

Not to mention the severe dumbing down of the game in general.

I'm referring to gameplay mechanics. They took out things that made the original games appealing and similar to roguelikes (IQ system making every pokemon have a different role, hunger now appears in all of like two dungeons during the postgame, they removed the starter quiz which had it's pros and cons)

This is just a shortlist of stuff, too. Personally I think even the Sprites -> Models change was an ill-implemented idea.

Doesn't really bother me. I never bothered trying to recruit all of the Pokémon in the previous games anyway.

That's not the main problem. The problem is that there's ridiculously reduced enemy variety in dungeons as a result of the limited pokemon, which means you'll be fighting the same pokemon over and over and over throughout the whole game. You can't even recruit a good deal of the encounterable legendary pokemon.

In addition, you can't use your favourites, which made the PMD games amazing in my eyes- In the main games, only a select group of pokemon were usable competitively, with pokemon falling further and further behind as the games go on.. In the MD games, You could use any and every pokemon, whether it be Ampharos, Lopunny, Magikarp, pre evolved pokemon, baby pokemon, unevolving pokemon, mono-type teams, whatever you wanted and still have the potential to meet with success.
