Yeah, i'd definately say it's time for the series to take a breather.

Well it's the last game in the prequel trilogy. It would've taken a breather even if it sold well.

Aren't they coming out with the Layton Brothers as the next iteration after the prequel trilogy? Or is that just an iOS game?

This is what happens when you release a game every year imo. 2-3 years between entries in a series is just about the perfect pacing.

They released Miracle Mask+ a while ago and there have been a ton of releases these past few months.

Nah, there are plenty of series released yearly that do well. Its just that advetnures are not that kind of thing.

Certainly couldn't have anything to do with the jump to the 3DS, a system that isn't as widespread as the DS was yet.

Nope. Series needing a breather is the only possible reason.

I mean the series needs a breather in general. After six titles, the forumla is becoming a bit stale. I think it's time for a change up.

Professor Layton 7 needs - and I cannot emphasis "needs" better than I am now - a change in genre. It would still have puzzles, but it needs to be a 3D point-and-click adventure game.
