Whether through Club Nintendo, Ambassador program, or some other special event, the majority of games that I've download did not cost me any actual money. I could probably count on one hand the number of eshop titles I paid full price for. --- http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/keyblader1985/keyblader.jpg You only need one T-Rex to make the point, though. ~ Samus Sedai
Downloaded every demo Got Four Swords when it was free Got classic Kid Icarus for free with Uprising Never paid a penny for anything on the eshop --- 3DS FC: 2234-7659-6680 Don't feel like playing your games? Watch me play instead! http://www.youtube.com/user/jargus0
Of my 30 downloaded games, I paid for exactly three of them.
20 Free ambassador games Free Zelda: Four Swords (also downloaded to my DSi) Free Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again (Club Nintendo coins) Free Photo Dojo (it was free for the first month of its release)
And when I originally bought my DSi at launch, it came with 1000 free points as a promotion Nintendo was running at the time, so I downloaded:
Arcade Bowling Army Defender Bird and Beans Pro-Putt Domo Mario Calculator (not really a game, though)
I've since transferred those to my 3DS with the exception of Bird and Beans, since it's contained within the WarioWare ambassador title.
I've bought (with my own actual money):
3D Classics: Kid Icarus Metroid II: Return of Samus Kirby's Block Ball
I've never been big on downloading titles (partly because you can never trade them in once you're finished/bored with them, but also because I'm simply not interested with most DSiware/eshop games) so I doubt I'll ever get any more. Of course, my game purchases have plummeted in the last few years anyway (games I want that are confirmed for a North American release this year are: Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon).
Overall, as you can probably guess, I'm quite pleased with my past transactions :)
On a side note, out of my entire gaming collection of 395 games, exactly 58 of them are digital downloads. </blogfaqs> --- A friend of mine thought that he had an NES toploader, until I informed him that it was a Super NES.
I paid $140 for a used 3DS that came with ambassador games and a load of other tiny DD games I'm not really interested in. I guess given the price it's like I got a bunch of games free. --- He's gonna kick that burger! -Yusketeers
Free: Flipnote Zelda Four Swords (downloaded both on DSi and 3DS) Photo Dojo (was free at launch) Ambassador games Pokedex 3D 3D Classics Excitebike Swapnote
Club Nintendo: Metal Torrent Pictobits Brain Age Express Sudoku Kirby's Dream Land Mario's Picross Donkey Kong Metroid II Tetris 3D Classics Kid Icarus
Other: Mario vs. Donkey Kong Minis March Again (purchased with free 1000 DSi points at launch) Bird & Beans (same) Mighty Flip Champs (a few years ago Kellogg's had a contest giving away 1000 DSi points; I won twice) Mario Clock (Kellogg's) Soul of Darkness (Kellogg's) Crystal Monsters (Kellogg's)
Paid: Shantae $12 Alphabounce $5 Puzzle League Express $5 Looksley's Line Up $5 Pop Island Paperfield $2 DodoGo Robo $2 3D Classics Kirby's Adventure $7 Mega Man Wily's Revenge $4 Mighty Switch Force $6 Ninja Gaiden $5 Picdun 2 $5 SMB Lost Levels $5 Sonic Triple Trouble $5 Super Mario Land $4 Super Mario Land 2 $4
So since April 2009, I've spent less than $76 on DSi/3DS downloads. 15 games paid for, 41 free. (Plus one time Toys R Us had eshop cards on sale so I even saved on the ones I paid for.) --- http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/keyblader1985/keyblader.jpg You only need one T-Rex to make the point, though. ~ Samus Sedai
