If I get an XL and do a system transfer...

...does it transfer everything? Like game saves, Ambassador games, eShop games, DSi games, puzzle pieces, StreetPass hats, StreetPass Plaza and Friends Code?

YES, everything. I did the transfer when I bought an XL, and it even kept my menu layout.

Yes to everything. I did the transfer to my XL last week and it did absolutely everything, it basically leaves the old system an empty husk and the new system has absolutely everything.

It will ask you to move the SD card that was in the original to the new system at some point, so even all SD card content will be with the new system. The whole process took like 30-45 min, IIRC. Will depend on how much stuff you have downloaded I guess.

Yes it does. It will even put the icons back on your home menu. My 3DS got transfered to a new mainboard during a repair at nintendo. Its all the same as I left it.

Though street pass for Swapnote got turned off and the clock reset, but the clock was probably a batter being removed thing.

You only lose save date from DSiWare games. I've transferred twice.

Does all of the SwapNote stationary that you have on your old 3DS transfer to the new one? I have every stationary unlocked and all of the SpotPass stationary at present. I don't want to have to get them all over again.

And what about your Friend's List, do you keep everyone on it as well as keeping you on their Friend's List?

You will not lose DSiWare save data in a 3DS->3DS system transfer. Only in a DSi->3DS system transfer.

I noticed that after my system transfer, SpotPass was deactivated for a handful of games, though in most cases I didn't care :P.

SwapNote stationary will transfer, as will your entire friend list and friend code.

Clock settings aren't transferred during a system transfer, as you set that up during the system setup anyway (which has to be done prior to the transfer).

I got a question too. Plan on doing a system transfer with my cousins 3DS for her ambassador games. I have the 3D Classic: Kid Icarus game downloaded on my XL though. If I do a system transfer from her 3DS to mine will I lose my stuff or it will it just combine?
