Performed the physical-to-digital save data transfer tool earlier...

#190sRetroGamingPosted 3/27/2013 12:35:18 AM
Over to my digital versions of MK7 and SM3DL! ^_^. was very simple. insert physical copy of game in 3DS, boot up tool, will need internet access for transfer to actually work (each time), will give you a bunch of prompts and warnings (once moved to digital the save cannot be moved back, save will be permanently deleted from physical once finished, yada yada yada), confirm yes or no.. and that's it!.

The transfer process is super quick.. maybe 5-10 seconds at best and it's done!. only one problem i have with this:

Save data from both versions will NOT combine into one, like the eShop accounts will do during a full system transfer. the physical save will completely overrwrite that of the digital save :(.

All that extra hard work i put in the last almost four months to re-unlock almost everything again, VR gain, coin count and Streetpass tag count in MK7 on the digital version ended up being useless and a complete waste of time :/. so annoying! -_-. otherwise i'm very happy with this tool they released and it was about damn time.

To quote the pro-digital crowd out there.. "less carts i have to carry around with me!" xD. both on my 3DS's home menu ready to go at all times! :).

Anyone else use this tool earlier?. if so what games did you transfer your saves to?.

Once again what is the main attraction of this? To basically play ALL your games at any time right?

I still won't do it because then there is no purpose in buying a physical copy is there?

I'm starting to see how keeping things digital might be advantageous. So you have to own BOTH copies of the game to have the transfer matter? I'm starting to think it might be worth it to go digital for many of the games I already own..

I really don't see the point. To use it, you have to have bought both versions of the same game. Thats just a waste of money.

Mainly for people that either WANT to make the switch over to digital from physical or someone like me who already had physical copies that got an "extra" copy of a game digitally for free in a bundle or promotion and just decides to move over to digital for those specific games.

I bought both on lauch in 2011 but when i got my XL this past december they had the pre-installed MK7 XL bundle for the same price as the others so it was a no brainer which one to choose.

Then the current XL/LMDM/PMD promotion. i chose the digital version of SM3DL because i figured why not have both of these digitally on my XL?. i already had Art Academy digitally from the Donkey Kong promotion, Layton physically and i recently got SF643D from Gamestop for $19.

I can pretty much try and sell/trade in my physical copies for close to $30 at some point down the line and use that in the future for new games. it made the most sense to me to do it this way ;).

I hope Nintendo updates the save transfer later, so you can transfer back saves to the physical version.
