"Whelp, guess I'll never beat EO:I at this rate. May as well watch the ending on youtube, and spoil the plot twist."

I could see people preferring this over the originals though. Some actually want a real story in these games.

Well then they can play another RPG. It's nice having an old-school dungeon crawler series that doesn't focus on story.

This was developed alongside EOIV so I don't see any danger to the old school styled games.
Personally, I think the gameplay of the EO series is fun but the lack of a story sucks.

One thing bugs me There are only 5 character and two of them are preset to Highlander(new class) & Gunner. I'm some one who plays the games by making one member of each class then changing the party around when necessary. It would be a real pain if you had to reclass and retributed your points every time you had to change party set up. There just aren't enough skill points to cover all bases with dual classing. I know in EO1 I actually had to create two Dark Hunters because Whip Specialist for binding was a necessity as was a drain sword wielding Dark Hunter a necessity with a revenging Hexor set up, I'm just lucky there were enough skill points to cover the Troubadour being set up as both long turn dungeon healing and Hexor support.

If there really only 5 members period this may make the game a problem. I know EOIV gives you and extra set character after they are guests. So it's quite possible the other classes will be handled that way so it doesn't become an issue. But it's already got to more classes over EO1. The games have had a max of 12. 9 was the standard in 1, with Gunner and Highlander that makes it 11. I'm betting War Magus returns from EO2 but Beast got cut. As you can guess, even if you sub-classed with no over lap you are still out two classes. Even that the second class is always meant to support the main class. So there ais no point in using the secondary class the same way you would if it was the main.

My point is I'd still want 12 characters. Hum maybe Ren & Tlachtga will become your Ronin & Hexor, since you can't use the classes till then anyway.

I think that Etrian Odyssey V needs to find a fancy middle-ground. Stick with the CaC, but make it deeper. I want to see my characters more involved in the story, but I want to design their personality and interaction. Honestly, that's the only way I can see them being able to validate making EOV, is if they really add onto what you can do with your characters, design-wise.

What's with the new story focus? This better not become a standard of the series. I like coming up with my own character names and such.

It's a new direction they are taking.
It's more of spin-off than an actual remake.

So in EO5, you will get your silent, self-chosen protagonists... Most likely... Assuming that this spin-off doesn't sell 10x more than the original.

*cough* persona *cough*

I think however this style they are using here might be right for if they made one for the WiiU. It's the only console I could see one work for. But the standard style EO games were using just didn't seem geared too it. Maybe that's the idea they are going for. So they get an idea for how a set character one with voice acting and all that jazz go so they can make one for consoles. They have spent all last gen avoiding making new console games, atleast ones that are RPG(LOL Cathrine & P4:Arena).

Could they also add actual icons for your weapons/armor/accessories? (personal suggestion)

Or does that go into the "I want my team to be anonymous so I can imagine them the way I want to" method of thinking?

I honestly REALLY like it. Need more boxarts with this clean aesthetic.

What are you talking about? Look at the Hero's stat screen his weapon has a "spear" icon, his armor has and "leather armor" icon, his shield a "shield" icon, and helmet has a "helmet". All equipment in EO has those type of icon already. It's to tell us what type of equipment it is, so we can only equip 1 of each type, and to differentiate what class can equip what. I don't see what you are suggesting. Attacks don't have icon, though it could help tell say which are shield skills, which are whip skills, and which are sword skill, but that's more of just help if you don't read the description while outfitting your character.
