Would Virtue's Last Reward worth to purchase as digital copy for 25€? As being fan of Ace Attorney-series, Hotel Dusk and Last Window, this game has intriguing me.
Also, do I need to play 999 first in order to fully understand the story?

you would most likely enjoy vlr. i've heard that you don't need to play 999 first, but i would recommend it. if you can't find a copy, you should be fine. --- "Captain Falcon wasn't confirmed for Brawl. Brawl was confirmed for Captain Falcon."
I finished VLR recently and man-oh-man do I wish I had started with 999. VLR was possibly one of the most engrossing games I've played in recent memory and many of the twists and turns would've had a harder impact had I played the first game. I fear it's too late to go back for me since I now know a lot of the key points of the plot but you still have a chance!
GO, GET 999!
Man, I've done nothing but troll these boards for the past year or so but VLR was such a masterfully crafted game that I can't help but break character and gush over it. --- http://i.imgur.com/dR1A6H8.jpg http://i.imgur.com/hh5apRK.jpg

You must play 999 first. VLR will be understandable without it, but 999 will make it SO much better. --- Official Ditto of the Pokemon X/Y board. Official Neko Shogun of the Shin Megami Tensei IV board.

999 is not required but highly recommended.
Also, yes it is an amazing story with many twists, fun puzzles and for me it was like 32 hours to beat it and I haven't found all the secret archives yet. --- proud owner of Pikanips

I just finished 999, and I'M SO GLAD I played that before starting VLR. I can't explain to you why, because that will involve spoiler. --- Currently playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked and Scribblenauts Unlimited

It's not required to play 999, but some big twists in VLR won't have the same impact if you haven't played 999. Also, 999 is an exquisite game on it's own and VLR spoils it.
And yes, VLR is totally worth buying for that (or any) price. --- Baseless prediction as of 01/04/13 : the next Xbox will be called the Xbox On.

While VLR is mostly self contained it uses characters and concepts from the 999. And it will spoil 999 greatly which considering how great 999 is would be a shame.
