Circle Pad Pro (XL) - Why wouldn't Nintendo make it so that...

...At least the buttons work with EVERY game? I get that they wouldn't want "tacked on" 2nd CP support for games, but why not at least make the damn buttons work?

Yes I should have done more research before I bought one, but I just assumed that the additional buttons were replacements for the original ones in all cases...so I figured the new L/R buttons could always be used. It's so awkward hitting the normal R button with this huge thing on that it makes keeping it on for non-supported games pointless for me. One of the reasons I got it was to use it as a "grip" to make holding it more comfortable but now that's out the window (it's about the same price as other grips anyway plus has the 2nd CP).

Seems like use of the shoulder buttons would have been an easy "standard" thing for devs to add into their games so it seems like a total bonehead move not to include it. Even worse is that the stylus is blocked as well...

Yeah yeah I got burned because I assumed too much so it's my fault, but still...

PS

I knew it didn't work with Luigi's Mansion before I got it so that's not a big deal. However I just I find it a little ironic too that Nintendo said it "didn't add anything" to include CPP support for Luigi's Mansion when the original was marketed as a demo for having a second analog stick on the GameCube.

This isn't the original and the game isn't built to revolve around a 2nd slide pad.

I played the original and the point of the second pad would be just as valid for this one... They "built it" to not revolve around it because they build ALL 3DS games to not require it.

I think Nintendo is worried that the Circle Pad Pro may become essential to the 3DS experience, which in that case it would be super poor game design to design a game around a peripheral you have to buy. This also explains why they are not including the CPP onto the 3DS.

the problem is that the CPP (XL) is not a pass through, it's actually using the 3DS' IR to function. So all previous games will have to be patched so that it will use the IR when the CPP (XL) is plugged in. Which doesn't seem that feasible.

It's also not that easy for Nintendo to release a patch to enable all games to use CPP's R button instead of of the original R button...

yah it sucks though :(

First thing, you're wrong in assuming that LM2 would have DA support just because the gamecube version did. There's a total list of 9 games that support the slide pad attachment. All easy to find on the internet.

"Yes I should have done more research before I bought one"
Pretty much. And a bit of common sense. The games that support it were made to support it and recognise the IR inputs from the CPP.
The other games don't recognise it, and so do nothing.

I can buy a universal remote and point it at my microwave, but I won't expect it to actually start anything.

I KNEW it didn't work with Luigi's Mansion I don't care about that, just thought it was a little funny after the first one was a marketing tool to sell people on the "C-Stick". I think there was some misunderstanding there...I'll edit.

The only thing I didn't know was that it didn't work at all in games that didn't support it. Yeah Dr4 I know...but that just confirms more what I said, that to add it in to every game (again, JUST the buttons, not the CP...I just want to be able to leave it attached and not have to reach up and over the thing to hit the normal R button) wouldn't be a big deal.
