Best way to spread Club Nintendo coins?

#1jdchur2Posted 4/25/2013 7:04:49 PM
I just bought a 3DS XL and Luigi's Mansion yesterday, and since I wanted the free digital game, I went ahead and registered my stuff on Club Nintendo, which I've never fooled with before. I now realize that I have some 18 games over the past 8 years that are eligible for CN but I never registered. Is it best to register enough to achieve platinum status before June 30, then register the rest afterward for platinum on the next CN year?

Also, if you make platinum status, do you also get the gold reward? If not, do you get to choose between gold and platinum awards?

That's what I'd do.
No clue about the gold and platinum thing but I assume platinum is the better prize.

Most of those games in that 8 year span won't be worth any coins.
You get to choose between gold or platinum if you get platinum

If I were you, I'd register just enough to get Platinum status (do the oldest games first), then save the rest for next year (or next 2 years if you have 1200+ coins' worth of games).

You get a choice of the gold prize OR the the Platinum prize if you got Plat.

Though last year they had a bunch of downloadable games as options for the gold prize (where if you chose one of the games, that was the special prize you got).

Awesome, I'll stop at 600 for this CN year then.

Thanks for the info, very helpful!

Always wondered how CN worked, I also have a HUGE backlog of first party titles that have never been redeemed. Does the coin counter reset every year? It's my understanding that the prizes are sometimes pretty crappy so it's somewhat of a gamble.

how do you turn this on?

Your coins expire 2 years from the date you register them. If you go to your "Account & coins" page, it'll say: "XX coins expiring on YY date".

Register just enough games to reach platinum status and hold the rest off until the next Club Nintendo year. I have enough codes sitting around and surveys waiting to be completed to get me platinum status for next year.

Additional question: when are the gold/platinum prizes revealed? If it is before June 30, and I decided that I only wanted the gold reward, then that's 300 coins I could save for next year.
