There is a very VALID reason why Mario Kart has the blue Shell

if youre trying to make an arguement that mariokart is more balanced than sega all stars racing, youd be quite wrong.

No that's not what I am saying. I am saying there is a good reason for the blue shell. or at least some kind of item that aims at the lead racer. I prefer Sega all stars actually

it can be exploited though, there are people who purposely stay in certain spots in the race basing their entire gameplay style off of the blue shell when they get it, its not fair, and that is not racing. that's exploiting. if someone has the skill to keep first spot and avoid the "not overpowered" items of sega all stars racing transformed, its completely fine. items are overpowered in mariokart, thats why they need a blue shell, because that game has no sense of balancing. sonic & sega all stars racing, while it does have items, skill plays a much larger factor, so its a more balanced game.

No there isn't. At least not the MKWii/DS version of the blue shell. That serves NO advantage to the user. MK7's at least stays on the ground more and can hit everyone. THAT is much better.

I forgot to add that yes 2nd place gets items to hit 1st place, but that doesnt matter when 3rd place is slowing them down and on top of them. Again, if you played Sega all star racing 1 you will see what I am talking about

The Blue Shell would be fine if it wasnt so freaking easy to get. You see the Blue shell more times then you really need to. They need to make it more like past games where it's supposed to be rare to get,not common.

I completely agree. Or the swarm like item they used in Sega All stars racing Transformed would be a great substitute.

The blue shell casualized the game even before the game term casual existed.

I'm not sure you understand the point I am trying to make

And 1st place racers get the worst luck of the draw when it comes to items. Your logic is circular. That 3rd place racer could also be getting slowed down by the 4th place racer, and so on.

Players should not be punished for performing well. That is the bottom line. And 2nd place racers get items to hit 1st placers too.

But when you have a gigantic first place lead it's ridiculously easy to hold items behind you as protection.

The lightning also servers to balance the race a bit more by affecting the racers more based on their position.

This is the reason why everyone is slowed down except the player in first place. I understand what you're saying, and it makes complete sense. However, I wouldn't be bringing this up if it wasn't so prominent in the game. If not then why is it first place gets such a huge lead?? this isn't due to pure skill, as I am not very good at the game and I got nearly a lap ahead of everyone.

Everyone 2-8 has the distinct advantage of having better item opportunity. Opportunity which the person in 1st place does not get. Potential game-changing items. A (MKW/DS) blue shell for the 7th place racer does absolutely nothing to help him. It just serves to screw the 1st place racer over while giving no position to the user. That is just chaos for the sake of chaos, like tripping in Brawl.
