Problem: I only have Oracle of Seasons for the GBC, I never owned Ages. Also, my GBA is broken, but I have the GameBoy Player for my GameCube.

Question 1: So, what I want to know is that can I use the linking system with my original Seasons cartridge and the Ages download for my 3DS.

Question 2: Even if the first question can work, should I still get Seasons on VC?

Yep. Finish the game, get a password for use in the 2nd game.

The only advantage in buying the VC version is convenience and save state function.

Yeah, buy it. Awesome games.

I lost one of the carts myself, looking forward to picking up the one I lost on 3DS and dusting off the GBA to do a double playthrough this summer. Probably play through the GBA first since I (think I) have a save on it already with the password already entered in... if it works like that.

To be honest, my memory is fuzzy with how the password worked and whether the pass was used at the beginning or end of the second game.

...and checking the cart didn't help at all. First save has Link and a girl walking and 14 hearts. Second save has four hearts and a Triforce in the corner, no girl. Third save has 15 hearts, no girl, and Link playing a harp. No idea what's going on. Oracle of Ages.

All of the connection bonuses are gotten through passwords, so unless they changed the password system for the 3ds release (which seems really unlikely) you can link up with your GBC copy just fine. Getting seasons on the 3ds would be purely for convenience.

Well, you should still be able to use that password to continue on to the next. There are a few differences when playing one first over the other, such as extra scenes and different ending image. Also, you get additional mini passwords throughout your playthrough that you use to transfer additional perks between games, like rings specific to one game or additional heart containers.

There are password generators online that let you pick and choose what you did without even playing. You can mix and match the systems you play on.

You can still use the password. And I own a Seasons cart, but I'm getting both; my seasons cart ran out of battery a few months back
