This reminds me of the e-Reader for GBA, Nintendo of America stopped supporting it even for Pokémon Games.

The thing with this piece of hardware is what it does can be done with a simple AR app, much like the KIU AR Cards that can battle between them.

This will become the Gotta Buy'em all now

Nintendo would make far less money if it used AR cards, as those could just be scanned and printed off the internet.

Scanner hardware is likely made so you can use the Tretta disc from the arcade version for the 3DS

Does anyone else remember the Pokemon Battle Stadium? You'd buy toys, plug them into your end of the stadium (which you also had to buy), slip your Pokemon card into your end of things, and then use your 4 buttons to pick from the attacks it had learned? Once your Pokemon battled enough, and got enough EXP, you could "evolve" it which allowed you to use the next evolution in its place. (Packs came with all evolutions)

It was basically Skylanders before Skylanders was Skylanders. Also it didn't require a screen, but it was still the same idea.

Uh, no, TC. Tretta wasn't made with the 3DS in mind, so thats why you need the attachment to use the little disks that get dispensed from tretta machines.

This will never leave Japan, either.

Pokemon has been a shameless cash-in franchise since 1996. Is this supposed to be a surprise?
