I will be getting it digital at midnight, my first full retail game purchased on the 3ds ehop. and probably my only until they get an account system set up, but I cant pass the chance to have it always on me no matter what. (Also it allows me to have a physical copy of Pokemon x/y plus digital copy of animal crossing both readily available at all times)

Physical at some point.
Mainly because there's to many games I want to buy currently that I want much more than Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

I was going to get physical day 1, but seeing how much more I play FE because its on my console, and because the kind of game it is, it's worth it to buy digital.

Digital, probably at midnight or if not definitely the next day. This is one of the few games that even if it's not priced lower it's worth to have digital. If you play it as intended you'll be playing on and off A LOT and there's no way I want to be switching my cart out every single time I load it up. Plus I won't be trading it in any time soon, so.

I do have a question though... has it been said how many towns you can have on your game?

If you aren't going digital with this title, you're doing it wrong.
