Looking to get into SMT but which game?

I have never played any of the games but have looked up a good bit about them but which game should I start with in the series?

Wait for SMT IV. The ones out now are decent, but not all that great.

On a related note, I've been looking for a new RPG. I generally don't care for Strategy RPG's but I'm willing to try some. I've been trying to decide between Project X Zone, SMT IV, or Soul Hackers.

- Soul Hackers is the one I'm most personally interested in
- If I do get Project X Zone, it would be almost entirely because of X and Zero
- SMT IV seems to be a great game and a good choice for newcomers to the series

I have a bit of a bias against Soul Hackers, so take my advice with some caution.

Get Strange Journey. It's probably the best cheapest choice, and it's playable on the 3DS. Gives you a pretty good idea of how SMTs are

Soul Hackers, Strange Journey, or SMT I, I'd say, though all of them are great.

Strange Journey is the most accessible main game (DS), while Devil Survivor Overclocked and soon Break Record are on the 3DS. 3DS will also get SMT4, obviously.

All awesome games

I would recommend at least trying out a different game before SMTIV. It's hard as hell and doesn't really hold your hand much. And I've heard that Easy Mode is like almost patronizingly easy, almost like the whole Ninja Gaiden Ninja Dog thing.

Get Soul Hackers its my GOTY so far tied with Fire Emblem. Keep in mind I grew up on the era of SNES rpgs and I adore this kind of gameplay.

If you have a Vita, try P4G.
Not exactly SMT, and the social aspect of the game isn't very thrilling either, but don't doubt its greatness. I'm an anti-weaboo kind of guy, a hater even. But P4G was a great gaming experience.
