Worth picking up a 3DS if I have no interest in the typical Nintendo games?

I have zero interest in Mario, DK, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Zelda, etc, but I do really wanna play Fire Emblem and SMT IV. Are there enough games outside of the usual Nintendo stuff to justify buying the system?

If a dark, violent visual novel with puzzles and branching paths appeals to you, I would suggest picking up 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors for DS and its 3DS sequel, Virtue's Last Reward.

After playing FE:A, I would honestly say that I would buy a system just for it, and nothing else.
So yes, there are also lots of other good non-nintendo games on this system.

I actually already own 999, as well as VLR on the Vita.

3rd party support is not really solid.

With the ongoing fraud investigation of Index Digital Media (atlus parent company), future Atlus policy is unknown.

Square enix have stated in its latest financial results that they would focus on mobile and tablets.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there was no major 3rd party titles announced at E3 for 3ds.

However, there's good games already released on the system,
Resident evil revelation, you should be able to buy it for 20$ or less,
Fire emblem is really nice, and you should play 50+ hours without realizing,
Theatrhythm final fantasy is nice if you are a FF fan,
Etrian Odyssey IV is a very well done dungeon crawler with a great soundtrack,
SMT: devil summoners soul hackers, great story but a little dated,
Code of princess, I don't really like this game but some people love it,

Also it is worth mentionning that tales of the abyss and devil survivor overclocked are good ports if you haven't played them before.

Verdict: although 3rd party support is not optimal, you should be able to build a nice library that could hold you for the rest of the year. 2014 should bring bravely default to the US and maybe we will hear about dragon quest VII (!).

When I had a DS, the only Nintendo game I bought was Pokemon HeartGold... And right now it seems I'll be going the same route with the 3DS.
