So err... Why the hell isn't there a new Advance Wars game yet?

I want the older style back. All bright and cartoony. Also give the game a kind of toy box aesthetic so when you look at the top screen it looks like you're looking down into a battle being played out inside a box. They could then do that brilliant thing some Advance Wars games have done where they hint at the horrors of war while presenting this bright jolly design. Make out that the world we see is the commander's view of the battlefield, kinda like how RUSE had that Risk style view if you zoomed out far enough.

I would love to see advance wars again - it was made by intelligent systems right? Wonder if they'll come back to it.

It'll happen. I'm sure it's in development right now, actually. That Awakening engine will get some mileage.

Because the studio was busy with both Fire Emblem Awakening and Sticker Star. And Pushmo and Crashmo.

If I recall they are considering a new one. I'd like it, whether it be like the Advance days or like DoR.

Probably because it's not actually a very popular series in terms of sales. Did even one Advance Wars game ever break a million?

The studio said they're not done with Advance Wars. However, they recently finished two "big" games for the 3DS (Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Fire Emblem: Awakening), as well as two widely popular eShop games (Pushmo and Crashmo).

If they're working on anything now, I would bet it's Advance Wars.

Wouldn't be surprised if AW1 or AW2 did. Was a peak of sorts for Nintendo with the insane attach rate the GBA and GameCube had.

No. Fire Emblem Awakening hasn't hit 1 million either. It's just under that.

The last FE title for the DS in Japan (FE12) actually did worse than AW4 in terms of sales. It only sold about 270k, whereas AW4 has totaled about 400k in its lifetime. That's probably the reason why FE12 never got localized to English. AW4 is in fact the second-highest selling AW next to AW1.

FE Awakening, due to its higher budget and advertising, needed 250k sales to avoid cancellation, so IS went all-out with it.
