If I could only have ONE 3DS game for a very long time, which one?

Situation: I get an XL tomorrow, and ONE game. Any game. I've never played any of the 3DS games before, and I'm looking for one that is just pure fun.

It will be the only game I have for a long time.

Super Mario 3D Land is pure fun. Fire Emblem or Animal Crossing are good as time sinks, as are the DS Pokemon games.

For my personal taste Monster Hunter. People can dump upwards of 700-900+ hours on that game solo. But I'd go with what this guy stated. Fire Emblem or Animal Crossing will definitely last you a long time.

DO NOT GET SUPER MARIO 3D LAND IF YOU'RE A DECENT GAMER!

Don't get me wrong, it's fun but having played Mario games since I was 5, I found the later levels more tedious and repetitive than entertaining.

Animal Crossing is a great game and is a decent price. If you've played other games in the series, you know the drill about time travel and times of day, etc etc.

Fire Emblem Awakening was my first 3DS game and I'm still playing it. If you live in a well populated area, chances are you'll find people who've played this game and you can then challenge their teams in your game. The fact that YOU are also a character in the plot is also more engaging this time around. Personally I recommend this or Animal crossing for a first game, but I'm leaning more on this if you can't get a new game for a while like you've stated in your post.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I played Animal Crossing: Wild World for the DS for a year. I doubt I will with New Leaf, but I'll have (And have had) many enjoyable days with it.

Animal Crossing is a TERRIBLE suggestion for a first game. I love AC, but let's be honest, there's only so much you can do in that game in a day. Once TC has gotten through all of the daily tasks and then some, what's he going to do? At least with a game like Monster Hunter or Kid Icarus, you can play until you're bored, but you will literally run out of things to do in AC.

Monster Hunter. I usualy put in about 1k hours in each title. Thats a bit excessive, but you can at least expect 200-500 hrs and thats only solo.
