Physical game saves are stored on the cartridge, Miiverse is coming by year's end.

You can buy a backup device that manages physical cartridge saves, but it isn't official and I can't say what it is here.

The digital backup is pointless because if something happened to your digital save (i.e SD corrupted or destroyed/lost), your backup is gone, too.

Which is why we have cloud backups these days and have the option to copy and move data wherever we want.

Nintendo should atleast partner up with google to get a cloud save option
