what do those jewel boxes mean on the download screen

I know its how fast is it...but is like one jewel is .25% or something?

Kinda hard to really guess what jewels for downloading are. I always found it much simple to wing it based on how full the box is.

I think the jewels actually just represent your download rate. If you have a good Internet connection, then you'll see four jewels go in each time. If your connection is lagging, then you might see just two or three jewels instead.

The box is a progress meter. The jewels tell you how good the connection is. If you stop seeing jewels, then you will get an error message.
They are not worth any set percentage. A large game will hardly fill up from one jewel, but a small one will fill up quite a bit.

This. Nintendo has always represented download speeds in fun ways.

When you downloaded something on the Wii the more coins Mario collected, the faster the download.

The faster your connection is when downloading in the DSi Shop, the more mario and friends drop blue data balls into the app

The jewels represent speed once again

That said i LOVE the current set up, and yes.. it's a lovely colorful distraction that you will stare at the entire time (LOL), but it would be nice if they added an actual "0-100%" next to it so we can REALLY tell how much has actually been downloaded in real-time without having to try and guess what it is...
