Nintendo needs to make three new IPs.

I say three because there are three perfect developers with which they could do this. Next Level Games, Retro Studios, and Nintendo EAD Tokyo. So far, their only roles at Nintendo have been to design games for Nintendo franchises. Very good games, good games that I'm glad exist; however, I don't think that Nintendo has established enough major brands, and the best developers - aside from Intelligent Systems, which has a -lot- on its plate - to accomplish this would be those three. Next Level Games could very well make a very well-designed arcadey sports title; Retro could give Nintendo a great, atmospheric first-person shooter; and EAD Tokyo could use a lot of its creativity, awesome platform gameplay, and overall tightness they put into the Galaxy titles and apply that to a new brand that would hopefully take off, in the same way that Nintendo established Mario in the 80's, Pokemon in the 90's, and Animal Crossing in the 00's.

I get it

But going off of that, I was always a fan of the idea that Retro could design a very Elder Scrolls-like FP game, except with a greater emphasis on dungeon design, puzzles, etc. than the ES titles had.

I just want NLG to make a new Punch Out. And then revive Wave Race. That would be swell.

are better off suited for more Metroid and Mario games since they already best fit those gameplay styles. I'm all for new IPs, but I agree with Miyamoto's philosophy on when to create new IPs; only when no other characters fit the gameplay style of the idea. Nintendo's backlog of IPs is already large enough so people nowadays won't know the difference if they bring one their lesser known IPs back from the grave as opposed to creating new ones. Kid Icarus is proof of this.

Why do Xenoblade, Pushmo, Dillon, and Denpa Men never count?
---
Currently playing: Fire Emblem: Awakening, Pushmo
Rainbow Dash is best pony. Fact.

Honestly, people forget Denpa Men too much. It's a rapidly evolving and a very popular completely original new RPG series that is enjoyable to play and worth its price. Nintendo isn't not making new IPs. They just happened to be e-shop oriented.

Nintendo could make 100 new IPs.
Their existence will still be ignored.

Because 3/4 of them are E-Shop series. If they made full blown console releases of those games I'm sure people would appreciate them more.
