i don't get the hate for sonic chronicles.
it was an rpg OF COURSE it couldn't be as fast paced as a platformer.

What sonic chronicle DID WELL was tell a great story and have a fun battle system.
and frankly unless we got a game like super paper mario (action rpg platformer) there was no way a sonic rpg could be as fast as a platformer.

AND FRANKLY i'm SICK of sonic fans acting like sonic is ONLY about pure speed.
in sonic one you couldn't even go very fast.
and EVERY sonic game on sega genesis had sections of the map where you HAD to slow down and make PRECISSION based jumps.

sonic shouldn't only be about speed anyone claiming otherwise is claiming sonic 1 sonic 2 sonic 3 and sonic and knuckles sucked.

1. The story was awful
2. The battle system was busted
3. In the Genesis games you could absolutely go fast at the precise parts if you were sufficiently skilled. That's part of what made them so good. Look up some Sonic speedruns.
4. I, at least, would never claim that Sonic has to be purely about speed--I thought Sonic Battle was actually pretty fun. But Sonic Chronicles was garbage.

The music severely ruined it for me.

it was bad enough when Square got their filthy hands on Mario

don't you think Sonic has suffered enough this past decade?!

Are you saying SMRPG was a bad game? that game came out when they still knew how to make a RPG

Sega can make turn-based RPGs just fine, as Phantasy Star has shown. I don't know why they'd need Square's help.

The kicker is, it's even Sonic Team that made the Phantasy Star games.

Maybe they haven't been confident since Yuji Naka left?

Sonic Team isn't what it used to be. Now it's more of a brand than a real top tier group of developers.

If anyone can make a successful Sonic RPG it would be Square Enix. I say: YES!
