How do you even get back to the backed-up save without deleting a current save? Not really feasible because you cannot choose back-ups, and restoring the back-up essentially overwrites the current save, if the game even lets you do it.

out of curiosity is the game's save on the system or the SD card? since you could probably use 2 SD cards to have multiple saves if it is on the card

No, doesn't work. ACNL knows which was your last save. You won't be able to load any old saves because the game knows you switched them.

I really don't see the point of multiple save files in a pokemon game.

Some people want to play fresh without losing all their mons?

They have that covered now.

Physical copy master race. I don't trust nintendo's save system on digital anymore. Too many people lose their save files. The 3DS east SD cards I swear.

Hint: It'll likely be disabled, just like for Animal Crossing.

very very easy.

I have Pokemon White at home (for lack of x/y release). My Brother came to my place for visit and sees my 3DS lying around with Pokemon inside. I tell him, that I still need 10 minutes to to shower and whatever. So he decides to play Pokemon, something he hasn't done since Gen 1. He starts the game. I tell him, that there is only one savefile so he shouldn't overwrite my data. He says:

"15 years have passed and they still haven't included a second savestate?"

So instead of starting where I last played (somewhere postgame hatching some eggs), he just closed the 3DS and turned the TV on. I agree with him. No point in starting a game in the middle/end of a story.

Also I'd love to do Nuzlocke, but I am definitely not deleting my Pokemon for that. And I am definitely not buying another game for that as well. (I looked up how much ebay asks for Fire red, and in no way am I paying 30 bucks for a 5+ year old game (I'd have to buy a GBA as well) [because I want to do a Kanto Nuzlocke])
