I'm sure this has been discussed, but I wanted to throw some numbers out there:

1,715,060 copies @ 5,990 each = 10,273,209,400

Current to $ exchange rate = 0.010 to 1$

10,273,209,400 = $102,732,094

It was on the market for two days so

$51,336,047 a day. It isn't GTA's 800 million, but thats still insane. Cacpom is probably very happy.

That is pretty crazy for an exclusive release in only one market. I'm pretty sure the number doesn't include digital sales, so you can add that to the total.

Not so crazy when you consider which market it is. The series doesn't do nearly so well anywhere else.

Capcom doesn't make all 5,990 on each copy...

It's a considerable amount of money for one game in one region but when you put it into perspective it isn't that much money. You will have to deduct a sizeable amount of the revenue in order to find the profit of the game. Some of these costs would be the retailer's cut, Nintendo's royalty fees, marketing costs and development costs amongst other things. The game is successful in its own rights however do not expect the money to do more than fund a small amount of projects. Capcom hasn't been performing that well lately and one success will not mitigate the entirety of the problems the company is facing.

I'm sure thats how Rockstar did their calculations as well, unless it was on the shipped portion of the sales, which is less impressive for a one day deal.

How much would you estimate they make per sale (in japan)?

Actually, Rockstar just broke 1 billion today. Holy s*** even Monster Hunter in Japan can't compare to this behemoth!

Think about it: an extremely popular multiplat vs a niche exclusive on a region locked console.

If it weren't for your user name, I would have mistaken you for Servant >_>

Plus, GTAV is awesome sauce and appeals to a mass audience. Pokemon appeals to the masses as well and even then Pokemon X/Y won't touch GTAV levels. MH is amazing, but it's audience is mostly just Japan.

So just because I'm praising a game available for PS 3 and X360, you were close to mistaking me for a Sony fanboy? Okay then...

And either way, I know Monster HUnter was a niche outside of Japan. I was just simply giving out a comparison. I don't see what's wrong with that.
