Well apparently they are not doing so well, perhaps MH can be their lifeline now.
It cost more money to develop games for a next gen system Ps4/Xbox one....ect

Question is, was this their own doing or was it due to other external factors?

They brought it upon themselves. No Megaman, no SFV , etc.... If you can see them made their own hole.

Capcom screw themselves up. They should have listen to the fans. They should have known disk lock content was a bad idea. Capcom have lot of good games but their business practice is crap.

Mostly their own doing, they made many bad business decisions and has managed to piss off the majority of what used to be their most loyal fandoms. Street Fighter fans hate the DLC milking, Resident Evil fans hate the action direction the series has taken, DMC fans would rather support Metal Gear Rising than "Donte", and let's not even get started on Megaman. And Monster Hunter, being one of the best-selling PSP series in Japan and is often credited with the PSP's popularity there, caused millions of fans to feel betrayed when it suddenly jumped ship to 3DS.

And yes, Capcom is doing very poorly, as of September they only had 152 million dollars in their bank. That's less money than Nintendo makes in 3 months.

152 million dollars in their bank...man
Seeing how big they are, that is not good.

I grew up on RE4 (PS2) man that game had a lot of post game content in there.....
kind of sad to see what they have become actually.

They butchered Breath of Fire. I say that right there is a sign. If anything though I hope they get bought out by Nintendo. The two make great Zelda games when they combine.

DLC isn't the thing though, that destroyed them, it was destroying their own franchises left and right.

It seems safe to say there exist people who could have stomached either DLC milking or screwing up franchises but drew the line at both happening simultaneously.

Capcom is being mismanaged into the ground. They seem to be tossing out everything in hopes that something sticks and makes a profit.
