Is the 3DS going to experience a drought again?

2013 Nintendo went full steam ahead with releases for 3DS. Its lineup was so diverse; you had adventure games like Luigi's Mansion, Zelda, Monster Hunter, plenty of RPGs like Pokémon, Fire Emblem and Bravely Default, platformers like DK, the list goes on.

The thing is, what's left? How is Nintendo going to live up to this year's huge success, and will it even? Especially with the Wii U set to get huge releases, I can definitely see the 3DS being overshadowed this year.

Yes, there is Kirby which looks very fun and charming. There are a few e-Shop games coming as well that look intriguing. There's the obvious Smash Brothers, though that is also on Wii U and I can't see anything much after that aside from maybe a new Metroid.

Do you think the 3DS might take a backseat this year, or does Nintendo have enough surprises to last us beyond 2014?

I think 2014 will have many more high profile 3ds games, which will balance out the lack of some first party Nintendo stuff.

Still, Nintendo is going to have a lot of first party content for the 3ds in 2014.

I dunno, y'never know. I just hope we get more third party games next year.
I mean, as much as I like Nintendo's first party games, we've got a lot of them so far.

Kirby, Smash, Yoshi, Layton and Bravely Default for the US, SMT4 and Etrian Odyssey Untold for the EU, Layton vs Wright, probably more first-party games announced in the next Direct, maybe Dragon Quest VII and Persona Q? Seems fine already, surely there'll be a lot more stuff coming.

Also, I'll be eagerly anticipating news about Zero Escape vol. 3. I'm not sure we'll get it by the end of 2014, but I bet it will be revealed by then.

Third party games can go to hell. The only third party games that I want are Yugioh and Dragon Quest. Others than that Nintendo should lock 3ds to allow first party games only. The situation like Vita where the game library flooded with worthless indies is the last thing we want on 3ds.

Not in the beginning, though. Maybe more at the end of the year.

Bravely Default
02/11
One Piece: Romance Dawn
02/28
Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy
04/08
Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars
LEGO The Hobbit

Now let's compare to it, let's say, Vita:
NA Vita releases according to GameFAQs (exclusives are bolded)
12/10
Sorcery Saga: The Curse of the Great Curry God
01/28
Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z
02/01
The LEGO Movie Videogame
02/11
Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
Toukiden: The Age of Demons
02/18
Ragnarok Odyssey ACE
04/01
MLB 14: The Show
04/02
Demon Gaze
04/08

So I'd say that the 3DS is still good, but not great. Aside from BD and Layton, every game seems bland. I wouldn't play most of them. But it will get better!

in terms of games worth playing, 3DS' life has been nothing but one massive drought
