I feel that save points give the game more of a challenge, but then again saving anywhere is nice if you have to quit.

Depending on the game there should always be very fair type of saving/check pointing.

I like both in the same game. Hard saves (save points) where no enemies are around, access to storage boxes or whatever that game has, etc. But quick saves as well, so I can exit whenever I want and start right where I left off.

Depends on the platform. For handhelds, save anywhere. They're meant to be portable and on-the-go. For consoles, whichever works best for the game.

The biggest argument against "save anywhere" is Zelda: Twilight Princess.
The game is full of game-ending save/quit screwjobs.

Limited save points, with single use save states from anywhere.

It depends. Usually save anywhere is very nice and convenient, but ALBW does an incredible job with the save points because you can instantly go to them any time you want, as long as you are outside. Or maybe a hybrid like Mario & Luigi Dream Team where you have both as options.

That's really just an argument against a broken save anywhere feature. Though, it certainly is more difficult to implement a "save anywhere" feature.

Personally, I like to be able to save anywhere. It certainly does remove a lot of the challenge from RPGs, since it means you very rarely have to be afraid of getting sent back very far. That's a good thing for me though, since I only have so much time for gaming, and I absolutely hate having to replay parts of games.
