So if I sell my 3DS having a Nintendo ID...what are my options?

#1JKSonicPosted 2/4/2014 7:02:18 PM
Long story short - trying to get my photography off the ground a bit more and as with most things this initial push is the hardest. I need to spend a little more here and there to upgrade my equipment and stuff and so things like my 3DS are first on the list to go in those situations.

Anyway, I have an ambassador 3DS XL, I'm not asking for values but what are my options in selling it if I linked it to an ID? What do I need to do to sell it fresh and empty, and conversely what do I need to do (or can I even at this point) to sell it with all my downloaded games and ambassador stuff on it?

If you already linked your NNID to your ambassador XL, it is worthless. No one will want it. Your option is to system transfer it to another system and sell the old system.

So is there no way to unlink the account from my Wii U and just change the password and give the system AND the account to the person?

Ah, so basically the ID thing was thinly veiled way to control us more while trying to make it look like an improvement? Nice...

Well if I just reformatted my Wii U and made a new ID couldn't I then just give whoever I sold it to their own password and they could take over my old ID? Guess I'm just grasping at straws here...

Nope, due form of DRM Nintendo uses, you cannot recover your old purchases unless you do a system transfer. Other than that, you're games are tied to your system(s) and if you delete your NNID on your system, your games are gone forever. Without the ID, you cannot play your games.

Your only options here is to completely change all the online information for the person who wants to buy it. Then again, if Nintendo has a change of heart one day and finally releases a true account system, then you will never get your games back. You can delete the NNID, but in the process you make your system almost worthless unless you're willing to sell it for 100-120 bucks.

I'd recommend just keeping it, but that's completely up to you.

If he did a system reformat in the System Settings menu wouldn't that bring it back to factory settings and who ever bought it would start from scratch?

What would happen to his original NNID? Could he, in the future, buy a new 3DS and use his old NNID to re-download all of his games?

If I need to sell my games as extra I'm fine with that...if I lose them I lose them. I just don't want to NOT sell the games too or NOT be able to get them back.

Man I shouldn't have linked my accounts, the only reason I did was because the Deluxe promo, I had credit on my Wii U I wanted to use on my 3DS...grrrrr.

i don't think having a nnid will absolutely break the deal (to sell the 3DS w/ the games). It just depends on if the buyer is willing to take it or not.
The potential buyer will probably ask for something cheaper than an ambassador 3DS w/ no nnid, but they'll buy it for the right price.

you will be forced to sell you game, though. I guess a 2nd option is to get a used 3ds/2ds for cheap and transfer your account there...

Nope, he cannot. Over 9,000 topics were made on this board where users felt like deleting their IDs which inevitably wiped their own account balances and unable access their games again. (complaint topics)

Maybe calling Nintendo Support could help, but I say it doesn't go with the whole spirit of this whole DRM action Nintendo has imposed and it would be absolutely pointless.
