Portrait > Dawn > Ecclesia

I really wasn't a fan of Ecclesia but I LOVE the other two.

Richter and Maria, actually. There was also a playable pair of bosses (as one character) who use the touchscreen quite a bit and strangely, an Old Axe Armor alone. Who is apparently female. Because why not.

I'd rank Ecclesia above Dawn above Portrait, but they're all great games anyway. OoE just seemed the right balance of difficult and fun. It constantly felt like Shanoa was a glass cannon, and it really showed in the early boss fights. Instead of just tanking hits and spamming potions like I'm used to in the other CV games, you'd die in maybe three hits tops to the first few bosses. You die a lot, but you learn. You get better. You take them down with some effort and pattern memorization.

And I did like the separate maps idea. Castlevania itself is a weird structure, but having different outdoor maps off the castle grounds was kinda nice for once.

How do people like Portrait of Ruin the least? That one's my favourite. There's so many whips!

Eh, I like Order of Ecclesia and then Portrait of Ruin and THEN Dawn of Sorrow. Or maybe the last two switched. They're all great games though that have merits that aren't shared with the other two.

Oh yeah! I actually forgot about Richter/Maria mode in PoR. That is one of the best alternate modes in the franchise, but of course Julius mode in Dawn of Sorrow takes the cake because of Alucard and Yoko.

Julius from Aria of Sorrow is the best alternate mode out of any CV games because of his theme.
